ADC South-West backs Hayatu-Deen

….pushes competence narrative ahead of primaries

Stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress, (ADC), in the South-West have thrown their weight behind the presidential ambition of Mohammed Hayatu-Deen ahead of the party’s presidential primaries, arguing that Nigeria needs experienced and competent leadership rather than “political theatrics.”
The endorsement comes barely hours before the ADC’s presidential primaries, highlighting intensifying lobbying efforts by aspirants seeking regional and delegate support ahead of the crucial contest.
In a statement issued by Babajide Dosunmu, leader of the ADC South-West Professionals Forum, the group said consultations with stakeholders, youth leaders, professionals and mobilisers across the region convinced them that Hayatu-Deen is best positioned to lead the country through its current economic and governance challenges.
According to Dosunmu, the South-West’s political tradition has always favoured progressive governance, economic reform and intellectual depth, qualities he claimed Hayatu-Deen represents.
“The South West has always stood for progressive politics, competence in governance, intellectual depth, and economic transformation. After extensive engagement and consultations, we are convinced that Mohammed Hayatu-Deen represents the kind of leadership Nigeria urgently requires at this critical moment,” he stated.
The group cited Hayatu-Deen’s background in banking, economic management, institutional leadership and public policy as key strengths needed to address rising unemployment, insecurity, declining investor confidence and worsening economic hardship.
“At a time when millions of Nigerians are struggling to survive, when businesses are collapsing, when young people are losing hope, and when insecurity continues to threaten national stability, Nigeria needs a leader with proven competence, discipline, and a serious understanding of how economies function,” the statement added.
The stakeholders also praised the aspirant’s emphasis on ethical leadership and accountability, particularly his call for aspirants to commit themselves to the ADC’s Governance Principles and Code of Ethics, popularly known as “The Orange Book.”
According to the forum, Hayatu-Deen has distinguished himself through issue-based engagement, integrity and a values-driven approach to politics.
The South-West bloc further urged delegates participating in Monday’s presidential primaries to support Hayatu-Deen, insisting that the ADC has an opportunity to present Nigerians with what it described as a credible and serious alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
