AEDC reports blackout in parts of Abuja after land grabbers’ encroachment on substation

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) says electricity supply to Maitama district and surrounding areas of Abuja has been disrupted following the alleged invasion and encroachment on its Maitama substation by land grabbers.
The management,in a statement said the incident prompted the intervention of Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The AEDC said the substation was a critical electricity distribution facility serving homes, businesses, diplomatic missions, and government institutions.
“AEDC wishes to inform our valued customers and the general public that the matter concerning the invasion and encroachment on the C2 Maitama Substation has now been escalated to the highest levels of the Federal Capital Territory Administration,” the statement reads.
“We are pleased to confirm that the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, has been fully briefed on the situation and has personally intervened to facilitate an urgent resolution of the issues responsible for the current power disruption affecting Maitama and adjoining areas.”
The DisCos said it is working closely with the minister, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to secure the substation, protect this critical electricity infrastructure and expedite the restoration of electricity supply.
“We commend the Honourable Minister for his swift intervention and unwavering commitment to resolving the matter,” the company said.
AEDC said it remained committed to restoring electricity supply as quickly ng and safely as possible, while expressing appreciation for the patience, understanding, and continued support of its customers during the challenging period.
