The acting director of Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Mrs. Aishat Adebayo, has commended the Environmental Preservation Development and Restoration International Organisation(EPDRIO), for its impacts on the Board’s work, especially in the area of fight against quackery, which has improved its revenue generation capacity.
“Our revenue generation has improved and hotels are also making sure that their environment is properly sanitised,” Adebayo was quoted in a statement signed by the Board’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Samuel Musa.
According to the statement, she disclosed this when EPDRIO officials paid a courtesy visit to the Management of the Board.
It added that on the issue of quackery, the AEPB boss lamented that people don’t know the right chemical to buy or the quantity to use for fumigation.
“I charge the department of environmental health and safety to go out and make sure they remove quacks from the business and let us ensure that the people that do this work are registered and professionals that can deliver the services needed in that area,” she stressed.
It added that the Chairman of EPDRIO, Prince Sam Gbadebo, had earlier asked the Board to pay more attention to the issue of fumigation and pest control, in order to ensure environmental sustainability.
According to him, some people parade themselves as officials of AEPB, offering to carry out fumigation and pest control services for individual and corporate entities at ridiculous prices.
“We crave the indulgence of the board’s leadership to look into this for healthy partnership with the association,” he said.
Gbadebo however decried that members of the organisation are harassed by members of the public health department of the FCT Administration, insisting on regulating them and their activities in the area fumigation and pest control.
He added that the association would collaborate with the office of the FCT minister on Roll- back Malaria programme and other similar health issues by offering free fumigation of drainages in about four designated areas of Abuja.
