Nigeria’s Super Eagles finished the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on a positive note after defeating Egypt to secure third place in the tournament taking place in Morocco.
The third-place playoff ended goalless after 90 minutes of action, with both sides cancelling each other out in a tense and closely contested encounter. With no breakthrough during regulation time, the match was decided by penalties.

Nigeria emerged victorious in the shootout, winning 4–2, thanks largely to goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who produced a brilliant performance by saving two Egyptian spot kicks. His heroics proved decisive as the Super Eagles held their nerve from the penalty spot to clinch the win.

The victory offered some consolation for Nigeria following their heartbreaking semi-final exit, where they were eliminated by hosts Morocco on penalties after another tightly fought game. This time, the Super Eagles turned the tables, showing composure and resilience when it mattered most.

By securing third place, Nigeria ended their AFCON campaign with pride, while Egypt were forced to settle for fourth place after falling short in the playoff.
