The District Head of Makarfi, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi, has said Governor Uba Sani’s reconstruction and modernization of the General Hospital Makarfi has reversed four decades of neglect and restored quality healthcare to the community and its neighbors.
Speaking during a statewide media tour of projects in Zone One of Kaduna State, Alhaji Adamu said the intervention has improved access to medical services, rebuilt public confidence in the facility, and renewed hope among residents who long struggled with inadequate care.
The media tour was led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, and the Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmad. It is part of the state government’s effort to showcase ongoing development projects and engage directly with beneficiary communities.
Alhaji Adamu told journalists that the hospital, established in the early 1970s, had not undergone any major reconstruction nor received modern medical equipment for over 40 years until the present administration intervened.
He described the transformation as a landmark project that has addressed longstanding healthcare challenges in Makarfi. “For many years, our people struggled with inadequate healthcare services and had to travel long distances to access quality medical treatment. Today, that reality has changed,” he said.
According to the traditional ruler, Governor Uba Sani fulfilled a promise made to the Makarfi people by reconstructing and equipping the hospital with modern facilities. “The reconstruction and equipping of this hospital have brought relief, restored confidence in public healthcare, and renewed hope for our people. We are grateful that the Governor has fulfilled his promise to the community,” Alhaji Adamu stated.
He added that the upgraded hospital now serves not only residents of Makarfi but also patients from neighboring communities who depend on the treatment facility.
The impact is already being felt on the ground. A patient at the hospital, Malama Sadiya Rabiu, said the upgraded facility has reduced both the hardship and financial burden of seeking treatment outside the local government area. “Today, we can access quality healthcare services close to home. This has brought great relief to families, and we are grateful to Governor Uba Sani for fulfilling his promise,” she said.
Another resident, Abdullahi Musa, said the project has strengthened public trust in government. He described the reconstructed hospital as evidence of the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of ordinary citizens.
The Makarfi General Hospital is among sixteen general hospitals currently undergoing reconstruction and modernization under Governor Uba Sani’s healthcare transformation program.
Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmad, explained that the project reflects the governor’s commitment to strengthening health infrastructure and expanding access to quality, affordable care across Kaduna State.
She reiterated that the administration considers healthcare a fundamental right and has continued to invest heavily in rehabilitating, upgrading, and equipping health facilities, with special focus on underserved communities.
