Two energy companies, All On and Energise Africa, have signed a $4m Memorandum of Understanding to develop and deploy solar-powered mini-grids in 19 communities across Jigawa and Bauchi States.
The firms disclosed this in a joint communiqué made available to journalists in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Monday, saying the project, being executed under the Demand Aggregation for Renewable Energy Technology programme, would provide reliable electricity to about 100,000 people.
The contract for the project has been awarded to Maskh Nigeria Limited, an indigenous renewable energy company with expertise in construction, engineering, electrification and procurement.
The initiative is aimed at complementing the Federal Government’s efforts to improve electricity access and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources.
The Chief Executive Officer of All On, Caroline Eboumbou, said the project would provide reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity to households, businesses and public institutions currently lacking dependable power.
She said the investment would also support local enterprise development and improve access to essential services.
“For communities across Jigawa and Bauchi where energy access remains limited, decentralised energy infrastructure can play an important role in enabling economic and social activity,” Eboumbou said.
She said the solar mini-grids would supply electricity to homes, schools, health facilities and small businesses while creating opportunities for productive use of energy.
“Energy access is not simply about connecting communities to electricity; it is about creating the conditions for people and businesses to thrive,” she stated.
Eboumbou said the investment demonstrated All On’s commitment to supporting indigenous energy companies capable of delivering scalable solutions to Nigeria’s energy access challenges.
She described the project as a catalytic investment that could contribute to Nigeria’s energy transition.
Similarly, the Chief Executive Officer of Energise Africa, Ray Coyle, said the project would provide clean and reliable electricity to the 19 communities while delivering social, economic and environmental benefits.
Coyle said the involvement of UK investors demonstrated continued support for sustainable energy development in Nigeria.
The Director of Operations, Maskh Nigeria Limited, Qaim Mahmood, expressed appreciation to the investors and the Rural Electrification Agency for their confidence in the company.
“We are deeply moved to play such an instrumental role in bringing clean, reliable power to underserved communities across Jigawa and Bauchi,” Mahmood said.
He said the 19 mini-grids would impact almost 100,000 people, support businesses, improve essential services and create opportunities for young Nigerians.
Mahmood added that the project would strengthen Maskh’s capacity, create jobs and position the company for further opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
