The Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has urged the entire residents in the territory to shun the protests going on across the country.
Maikalangu, who stated this while addressing the residents during a townhall meeting and engagement with the youths and other stakeholders yesterday at Apo town hall in Abuja, noted that Nigerians have the right to protest, but the demonstrators need to respect the rights of other citizens.
“I welcome all the stakeholders, party faithful from various political parties, royal fathers and religious leaders. I must say that the choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental rights of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments.
“ I want to commend the wise decision of the FCT Youths for completely opting out of the planned nationwide protests and instead choose a dialogue with the Government. Indeed it has yielded a positive result”, the Chairman said.
He expressed with sadness that there are some unscrupulous elements in the society who are instigating some Nigerians to topple a democratically elected government by all means, tasking the FCT residents to stay peacefully during the protests.
Maikalangu used the occasion as a forum to inform the people of AMAC that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike had promised to bring back Public Complaints Commission (PCC) slot that was mistakenly given to another state.
