Hon Christopher Zaka Maikalangu, Chairman of the Municipal Area Council, AMAC has given kudos to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike for continuing with projects abandoned since the era of former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida.
MIkalangu made the comment at a meeting with some senior journalists in his office on Wednesday.
The AMAC chairman said he was impressed with the leadership initiatives of Wike which places priority on completing projects that were started but abandoned by previous administrations of the FCT.
This approach by Wike, he said, will further improve the speedy development of the FCT, especially in the completion of roads and other infrastructure that impact directly on the lives of the people of the FCT.
He said Wike has demonstrated that leadership is about service to the people, and that the people of AMAC and indeed the FCT are happy with his approach to leadership.
He also said that the introduction of property tax in the FCT will go a long way in increasing the revenue needed to drive development.
According to him, only one percent of federal allocation that come to the FCT is not enough to speed up development, and that additional revenue can be generated from the introduction of the property tax.
He added however that consultations have been going on to ensure that residents of the territory are not subjected to multiple taxation.
For his part as AMAC chairman, Maikalangu said delivery of infrastructure to the people of AMAC was core to his administration.
Accordingly, he said there is an ongoing construction of roads within Kpegyi community, Damagaza Village, Wumba village, and Gwagwa (by Police Station).
In addition, he said “we have fully completed the Dutsen-Garki, Jikoyi, Unguwan Sarki access road (Orozo), Mabushi ongoing access road, as well as the Iddo-Sarki access road project, Gosa, and ongoing Toge road construction.”
He added that about six (6) on-going road projects across the Area Council are nearing completion.
