Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido has revealed that the Council’s Micro Finance Bank will commence operations in the first quarter of 2018.
He dropped this hint about the much awaited take off of the grass roots financial institution at a media parley to mark the end of 2017 activities of the Council.
Candido explained that the conception of a bank by the Council was to enable low income earners to access soft loans to kick start and sustain small businesses in the area.
He also revealed that plans have been concluded to establish AMAC community radio station in the second quarter of 2018, to keep residents abreast of happenings within the council.
According to him ,despite political activities that would commence next year, the council under his leadership remains resolute to deliver dividends of democracy to its residents.
He reiterated that the council will give priority to the provision of electricity, healthcare services, road amongst other basic infrastructures that would add value to the citizenry.
While commending members of the press especially those covering activities of the council, he stressed that he would welcome any criticism from the media as the watchdog of the society, thereby putting him on his toes to do the needful.
He noted that the role of the media in any developed country across the world can not be overemphasized.
The AMAC Chairman therefore urged the media to always carryout investigation on issues at their disposal and be objective on their reportage before going to the public.
