In a strategic push for a “Green Economy,” the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has launched a four-day intensive capacity-building program targeting 150 young women from dumpsite communities.
The initiative, which kicked off Monday at the Apo Resettlement Town Hall, is a collaborative effort between AMAC, the Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN), UNICEF, and the Canadian Embassy.
The training focuses on “Straps Upcycling,” a creative process that transforms plastic waste into high-value artisanal products.
Representing the Executive Chairman, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, Council Secretary Hon. Jafaru Gwagwa declared the program open, noting that the goal is to move marginalized women from the “fringes of hardship” into the mainstream local economy.
