AMAC: Wike takes rural road construction drive to Saburi

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has taken the ongoing rural roads construction drive to Saburi 1&2 communities, in Abuja Municipal Area (AMAC), with the commencement of a 5 kilometer (km) temporary access road from Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) to Old Keffi road near Dei-Dei International Market within the council.

Wike flagged off the road construction awarded to Lubrik Construction Company (LCC) yesterday, which was the sixth and last leg of the ongoing construction of at least 30 kilometer roads in the six Aren Councils of the FCT.

He said the road when completed, will bring to bear the dividends of democracy and improve economic activities and security in the area.

He also promised to facilitate the rehabilitation and expansion of Gwagwa, Karmo to Dei-Dei road, to open up and ease traffic congestion in the area, following a request by the AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, for such intervention.

He explained that the simultaneous construction of at least a 5 kilometer road in each of the FCT Councils, expected to be completed before the end of the year,  was in line with renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

This, according to the Minister, is the essence of governance when the government responds to the needs of the people.

He said:“Mr President has emphasized that our people in the rural areas must be given attention because that constitutes the larger part of the population.

“So. it is not only where the elite are living, but also where the poor ones are, so that we will be able to reduce the level of insecurity, make economic activities to thrive and have our farmers bring in their goods to the market.”

Furthermore, Wike enjoined the residents to pray for President Bola Tinubu’ for good health and God guidance to be able to keep his campaign promise of providing dividends of democracy to the people.

He disclosed the construction of additional roads across the six areas councils of the FCT would be inaugurated in the next three months.

He however, appealed to the Senate and House Committees on FCT to support in passing the FCT budget, which would be submitted soon, to enable the Administration to deliver more roads and other projects in rural communities.

Earlier, Maikalangu had described the road as a strategic commercial road in the whole of FCT, but in a bad state, narrow and required expansion for the road users.

He also said that the Saburi road from the expressway to Old Keffi Road would ease the suffering of the people particularly during the rainy season.

He added that the road, when completed, would trigger, and provoke the enormous socio-economic activities and other development strides in the area.

On his part, Sarki Jiwa, Alhaji Idris Musa, who expressed excitement for the initiative, thanked FCTA under Wike’s watch for providing access roads to rural areas across the six  councils.

Also, the Monarch announced the conferment of the traditional title of Jagaban (Chief Warrior) Kudu of Jiwa Chiefdom on the FCT Minister, making it the fifth title conferred on him by FCT communities.

Not left out, Oversighting Director of FCT Satellite Town Development Department ( STDD), Dr. Olusegun  Olusa, who gave the project overview, said the scope of works consist of construction of 5km asphaltic concrete finished road on 8-meter carriageway which also includes site clearance and earthworks, reinforced concrete pipe and box culverts of various sizes,reinforced concrete U-Channel lined drains, and150mm thick crushed stone base course.

Olusa added that others 50mm asphaltic wearing course, expansion of an existing box culvert river bridge with 3-span, stone pitching, and lane surface marking.
