From James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has begun strategic moves to take over an abandoned housing project in Obada Oko in Ewekoro local government area of the state initiated by the former President Shehu Shagari-led Federal Government with a view to completing the project through a mortgage scheme in order to close the wide housing deficit and to shore up the state economic base.

The move to take over the abandoned FG housing project according to the governor was to ensure that affordable housing is provided for the people of the state and to remove the security threat which the abandoned housing project poses to the host community and the state at large following alleged occupancy of the houses by illegal squatters and miscreants.

Governor Amosun, who declared state government intention to acquire the abandoned housing project at “the Ward-to-Ward Campaign Tour” in Obada ward of Ewekoro local government, noted that the possible take-over of the housing project from the federal government would further afford the people the opportunity to own houses in the state and to shore up the state economic base.

He said, “We must find a way of developing the FG abandoned housing project here at Obada Oko; we know that it was initiated by the FG then after the State government had allocated it, but the state of the housing estate today is an eye-sore. We are now negotiating with the Federal Government with a possible take-over of the abandoned housing project.”
