Amoured cars: Reps threaten to sanction NCAA

The House of Representatives has said the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has refused to honour the House’s directive to return the N255bn armoured cars to their suppliers, saying the two cars are still at NCAA’s office in Abuja.

Chairman, House committee on Aviation, Rep. Nkiruka Onyejeocha (PDP, Abia), stated this yesterday, at a meeting with the supervising minister of the aviation ministry, Samuel Ortom.

She said more than one month after the oversight of the committee, the ministry has failed to turn up the documents asked to be provided by the committee.

She said findings by the committee, after the recent oversight, showed that the ministry has been found to violate due process in contractual agreements entered for the execution of some projects in Abuja and Lagos.

“Contrary to the submission of the report of the committee’s public hearing on the purchase of two armoured cars by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which was adopted by the House, the NCAA has refused to refund the two vehicles to their suppliers. Till date, the cars are still at the NCAA premises in Abuja.

She accused the ministry of failure to remit its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the federation account.

“There is no evidence whatsoever to support revenue remittances to the federation account. This is in violation of the Full Disclosure Responsibility Act, 2007,” he said.

The chairman said their investigations have discovered that contractor handling Abuja Hajj terminal has not install air conditioners and other equipment, even when the ministry listed the renovation as one of the completed projects.

She added that “there is obvious inability of the ministry to meet its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of 2011, 2012 and 2013. This poses a great danger to the growth of the ministry.”
