ANEEJ: Why protests against BEDC hasn’t attracted global attention

By Osaigbovo Iguobaro, Benin

The African Network for Environment and Economic Justice, ANEEJ has explained why the campaign by Civil society organizations, CSO’s against the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, is yet-to-be held at a distance.
The Executive Director of ANEEJ, Reverend David Ugolor, admitted that members of CSO’s have achieved a lot, but, the quality advocacy globally, is still low.
He expressed his views when he paid a courtesy on Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ in Benin City.
“I give you an example like the electricity campaign in Edo State. Do you know that they have achieved a lot. But, the question is that in terms of quality advocacy globally, is still low.
He stressed that a well research report can unbundle, dredged up to address serious character flaws and correct the narrative.
According to him, “But, the question is that in terms of quality advocacy globally, is still low. But, do you know that one single real research report can unbundle all the things they are doing?
“Why do you think we were able to get the Nigerian government to allow us to negotiate between the Switzerland government and Nigerian government to sign all the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that now gave us the permission now to be monitoring all the money right away from the Central Bank of Nigeria. CBN to the beneficiaries. It is the report.
Ugolor, said, “There are things you can achieve with intelligence without necessarily putting your soldiers on the road. So, it is about quality of competence.”
