By Jude Opara, Abuja
Ahead of the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) coming up this weekend, the incumbent National Welfare Secretary, Chief Donatus Nwankpa has said he is confident of retaining his position, given his track record of addressing the welfare of the management and staff promptly.
This is as the Secretary of the Screening sub-committee and former governor of Bauchi state, Isa Yuguda and former Senate President, Sen. Ken Nnamani heaped praises on Nwankpa described him as a unifier.
They spoke when the Welfare Secretary appeared before the committee for screening.
While Yuguda described Nwankpa as one of the most detribalised party chieftains in the South East, Sen. Nnamani identified Nwankpa as one of the pillars holding the ruling party in the region.
“The man before us is someone very special and close to everyone of us here. He is one of the most detribalised Nigerian member of our party in the South East. He is also a great mobilizer and one person with the capacity to take APC to the grassroots in the zone.
“He has distinguished himself and shown his capacity since joining the national leadership to make the presence of our party felt in the South East. One other good thing about him is that he has more friends in other parts of the country than even in the South East,” Yuguda noted during the screening.
On his part, Nnamani described Nwankpa as one of the strong pillars holding the ruling party in the South East, calling him a bridge builder.
“Nwankpa is a very familiar person to us. He is a very strategic leader of this especially in the South East where he has become a strong pillar uniting our party in the South East geopolitical zone. We need more of his quality to make our party, the APC more visible,” he said.
Reacting to the encomium, Nwankpa who said he was humbled, promised to do more if reelected.
