Over 20 students of Jos, Maiduguri varsities feared kidnapped in Benue

No fewer than 20 students of the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos are feared kidnapped in Otukpo local government area of Benue State.
It was gathered that the alleged incident occured at 5:30 pm on Thursday as the students were said to have been ambushed while traveling to Enugu State.
Reports revealed that the students including a house officer identified as Dr Louis were en route to participate in the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu when unknown gunmen laid ambush and kidnapped them.
According to a Twitter account that reports issues in the medical field – @Nigerian_Doctor that also, shared the information, appealed to security agencies to urgently intervene and ensure rescue of the students and free the families from the trauma.
The message in the Twitter read,”A House Officer (Dr Louis) and 20 Medical and Dental Students have reportedly been kidnapped! “These students, from University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, were traveling for their Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu.
“They were reportedly abducted somewhere in Benue State, not far from Otukpo, judging by their last known location. We plead for your urgent intervention.”
Confirming the incident to Peoples Daily Weekend, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, said investigation had commenced into the abduction.
It would be recalled that the Rector, Benue State Polytechnic Dr. Barki , amongst other top personalities were recently kidnapped in the same area.
