Benue APC condemns attack on Secretariat

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has condemned in strong terms what it describes as an unprovoked attack on its State Secretariat on Thursday, by miscreants.
The condemnation was contained in a press statement signed by the party Publicity Secretary Daniel Ihomun, which was made available to the media.
Recall that the State Governor, Rev Fr. Hyacinth Alia, in a press conference on Wednesday night, warned members of the factional APC with dire consequences if the party goes ahead with its planned Expanded State Executive Committee meeting scheduled to be held at the Party Secretariat in Makurdi.
Alia, in his press conference, also unconstitutionally ascribed to himself as the Leader of the party in Benue State.
The statement reads,”the party wants to State it clearly without ambiguity that the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress 2022, as amended, is very clear about who is the leader of the party in the State.
“The leader of the party in the State, as specified by Article 12.9 of the APC Constitution, is the State Chairman of the party, Comrade Austin Agada.
“The party also recognizes Sen. Dr George Akume, CON Secretary to the Government of the Federation, as the conventional Leader of the party due to his ability to galvanize, mobilize, sponsor, and lead the party to victory over the years.
“Gov Alia must understand that party leadership doesn’t come by coercion, he must recognize that he is a product and an employee of the party.
“The party wishes to inform the Governor that he was elected to provide security of lives and property of all Benue citizens, provide infrastructural development, build hospitals and improve education in the State not to fight over party structures.
“We urge our members, supporters and the good people of Benue State to remain peaceful and law abiding in the face of this provocation from government machineries.”
