All Progressives Congress (APC), convention committee secretary, Sen. Chris Ngige,yesterday debunked the rumour making the rounds that the party has zoned it executive positions ahead of its National Convention.
Ngige made this disclosure yesterday in an interview shortly after he presided over a meeting with all the convention committee members in Abuja.
Asked to confirm reports that certain positions have been zoned, Ngige said “No, we have not zoned anything to anywhere and you know that zoning is a conceptual arrangement. So, even if we agree it will be a sort of gentleman’s agreement, it will not deny anybody of its right as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution.”
On how prepared the committee was for the convention, the Senator declared that “APC National Convention Committee is very very prepared, you can see that all the committee members are here and everything is already working out fine.
“Nigerians will see a convention that is transparent, democratically elected leaders will emerge from our party to steer the affairs our party for the next four years. Thereafter, in November or December this year, this particular executive we are putting in place will organise our National Convention to elect our Presidential candidate.”
He also said many people have obtained forms for different positions. He was not however specific of numbers for each positions.
On how the party is working to resolve some of the crisis arising from the Congresses, Sen. Ngige explained that it was only in about five states the party is having issues, adding that “ for a big party like us, with 37 branches, those states will be handed over to the incoming executive for them to look at.”
