APC denies allegations of coercion in membership registration exercise

Date:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that civil servants are being pressured to participate in its ongoing electronic membership registration exercise.

In a statement issued on Monday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the claim as “false and baseless,” saying it was intended to undermine the party’s digital registration initiative.

The APC accused the ADC of engaging in what it termed a disinformation campaign, including the circulation of a purported APC membership slip allegedly linked to a terrorist. According to the ruling party, the document is fake and was fabricated to discredit the registration process.

Mr. Morka said millions of Nigerians had registered voluntarily since the exercise began, attributing the surge in participation to public support for the party and the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the registration deadline had been extended from January 31 to February 8, 2026, due to what he described as overwhelming demand.

“The ADC is intimidated by the phenomenal success of our Party’s E-Registration exercise,” the statement said, adding that the APC would remain focused on strengthening its membership database through digital innovation.

The ADC has yet to respond to the APC’s rebuttal as of the time of filing this report.

The APC’s electronic registration drive is part of broader efforts by the party to modernize its internal processes and expand its national membership base ahead of future political activities.
