All Progressives (APC) support group, the Youths Political Movement of Nigeria (YPMN), has expressed displeasure over the conduct of the National Chairman of the party, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda since he assumed office.
A press release issued in Jos, Plateau state through the National Coordinator of the group, Hon Huzaifa Ibrahim, said as members of the APC, the call became necessary after a careful review of Nentawe’s performance.
“After a careful review of his actions within a short period in office, we have observed a series of persistent and clear violations of the APC Constitution,” the group said, hinging their concerns on Nentawe’s alleged refusal to open party membership registration to absorb new entrants, like Plateau and Osun state governors amongst others.
“Our concern is heightened by his deliberate refusal to open the party’s membership registration process, thereby preventing genuine, well-intentioned Nigerians, amongst whom are the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang; Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke; and other grassroots stakeholders from joining the APC,” it stated.
The group said the chairman’s conduct is a direct breach of Article 9 of the APC Constitution, which guarantees eligible citizens the right to be registered as party members.
“By blocking eligible Nigerians from joining the party, the current leadership is violating these provisions, thereby depriving prospective members of their constitutional rights, and by extension decreasing the party membership,” the statement added.
According to the group, such an act contravenes Article 14, which requires the national chairman to uphold the constitution, defend the name, policies, and programmes of the party, and provide good and effective leadership.
“We respectfully call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the National Leader of our party, to urgently revisit and review the appointment of the current national chairman, correct this constitutional infraction, restore the integrity, openness, unity, and progressive identity of the APC.
“We urge President Tinubu to reassess the appointment of the national chairman due to disregard for the party’s Constitution,” the statement concluded.
