For alleged failure in the power sector and the insecurity in the country, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Warri, Delta State, yesterday inaugurated the Buhari For Change Movement with a call for all Nigerians to rally support for the retired general known for his administrative sagacity, prudence and anti-corruption stance.
The inauguration ceremony held at the APC Secretariat at Okere was witnessed by a crowd of party supporters comprising all perceived factions of the party in the state.
In a communiqué, signed by the South-South Co-ordinator and Publicity Secretary of the Buhari for Change  Movement, Mr. David Iwere, and Oghenemarho Tega, they maintained that Buhari has the capacity to flush out the Boko Haram insurgents and other militant groups threatening the unity and survival of the country and people, stressing that “as GOC in the Nigeria Army, Buhari was able to sack the notorious Maitasine group and repelled the Chadian rebel in 1983 and 1984”.
The communiqué, read by Dr. Emiko Ofuyaekpone stated that the movement has commenced a door-to-door campaign to kick out President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, saying that there is now the urgent need for change in the governance of the country.
The Buhari Movement for Change stated that they are out for a detribalized president, who will take the country as his constituency, noting that what we have at present is a situation where ethnic minorities can no longer sleep with their closed because they are not from the president ethnic group.
According to the communiqué, they “will mobilize men, women, youths and resources together with all eligible voters across the South-South region to ensure that Gen. Buhari, Mr. Anti-corruption, wins convincingly in the February 2015 presidential elections.”
They noted that the present administration lacks the capacity to resolve the security challenges posed by insurgency and militancy, even as “they desire change from tribal governance to National government”.
The South-South co-ordinator, Mr. David Iwere, reminded the people that the struggle is for the betterment of the country, protection of minority rights and interest devoid of witch-hunting of any group and charged the people to go home singing the APC mantra of change.
