APC Legacy Bloc Backs Bichi for Kano Deputy Governor
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Legacy Bloc in Kano State has thrown its weight behind Engr. Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi for the position of Deputy Governor, urging other aspirants with corruption allegations to step aside in the interest of integrity and public trust.
In a statement issued in Kano and made available to journalists, a frontline member of the bloc, Magaji Umar Gwammaja, said the endorsement followed wide consultations among stakeholders after the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
Gwammaja described Bichi as “a candidate of exceptional maturity and administrative depth”.
According to him, Bichi’s experience across state, federal and development institutions places him ahead of other contenders.
“He possesses the competence, credibility and track record required to effectively support the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf,” he said.
The APC chieftain further stressed that the group’s position was guided by the need to uphold transparency in public office, calling on aspirants facing corruption-related allegations to voluntarily withdraw from the race.
“This is about protecting the integrity of governance. Those with unresolved issues should step aside to allow a credible process,” Gwammaja stated.
According to him, the bloc remains committed to ensuring that Kano State produces a Deputy Governor who can withstand public scrutiny and contribute meaningfully to governance.
He added that Bichi’s record in public service, including his roles in key institutions, demonstrates “administrative sagacity and proven leadership.”
The statement also acknowledged other contenders in the race, including Kabiru Alhassan Rurum and Murtala Sule Garo, noting that the call for withdrawal was not personal but aimed at strengthening public confidence in the selection process.
Gwammaja revealed that the list of nominees would undergo security screening by relevant agencies, after which the final decision would be taken in line with constitutional procedures.
He emphasized that due process and merit would ultimately guide the emergence of the next Deputy Governor.
He expressed optimism that the process would produce a candidate capable of complementing the governor’s agenda, urging all stakeholders to support a transparent and credible outcome.
