The Nigerian Police have confirmed the tragic incident involving an airstrike that hit Dilli Market along the Borno, Yobe border, even as the National Assembly (NASS) pledged stronger legislative support and funding to boost ongoing military operations in affected regions.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Yobe State, Dungus Abdulkarim, said authorities were aware of the incident and had commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the strike and its casualties.
He noted that security agencies, including the police, had been deployed to the area for assessment, documentation, and coordination of emergency response efforts.
“At this stage, we are still gathering facts on what happened. No confirmed casualty figures yet, but our teams are on ground working with other security agencies,” he said.
Meanwhile, lawmakers at the National Assembly have reiterated their commitment to strengthening the military through improved funding, operational support, and legislative backing to enhance counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East.
They emphasized the need for continued cooperation among security agencies to prevent further civilian casualties during operations targeting insurgents.
The incident, which reportedly occurred during a military operation targeting suspected Boko Haram elements, has sparked renewed concerns over civilian safety in conflict-prone communities.
