Tensions have emerged in Plateau State following the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, as women leaders within the party have called for the cancellation and rerun of the exercise, citing widespread irregularities.
The aggrieved women, who spoke on Wednesday in Jos, alleged that the process was marred by intimidation, manipulation, and violence in several wards.
One of the aspirants, Esther Bitrus, claimed that her agents were attacked in multiple locations across the constituency.
She alleged that in Bukuru, her agents were beaten, with one reportedly hospitalized, while result sheets were stolen and figures altered.
“In Bukuru, they beat up my agents. One is currently hospitalized, and then they ran away with the result sheet and manipulated the figures,” she said, calling for the cancellation of results in affected areas and a rerun.
Similarly, APC women leader Fatimah Suleiman said several polling units lacked basic electoral materials such as ballot boxes, which made voting impossible in some areas.
She described the exercise as unfair and influenced by personal interests rather than democratic principles, adding that women within the party were demanding a rerun in affected wards.
Another party member, Blessing Nyongo, also condemned the process, describing it as characterised by intimidation and exclusion of aspirants.
She warned that the alleged irregularities could weaken grassroots confidence in the party and called for urgent intervention to restore credibility and unity within the APC in Plateau State.
