The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed that it has already registered no fewer than two million members, just within one week after it launched its digital membership registration exercise.
National Secretary of the party, Dr. Ajibola Basiru told newsmen on Monday that the National Working Committee (NWC) after a meeting with the state coordinators of the exercice that the feat was achieved despite the fact that most of the state chapters are yet to key into the programme.
Basiru added that the National Chairman of the party, Prof. Yilwatda Nantawe stressed the importance of getting the exercise correctly and timeously, adding that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party that held in December mandated the NWC to sanction any state that fails to take the exercise seriously.
“And of course, any state that has been found lacking, we at the National Working Committee have been given the latitude to change the status of state coordinators if they are not on-going. And of course, we also have the mandate to also now take a look at the state-by-state affairs of the membership legislation.
“We are happy to inform the Nigerian people that as of today, just a week into the exercise, with many of the states yet to even start in full trotting, Nigerians who are registered to be members of APC are already in excess of 2 million members who are digitally verified and have their name and also have their voter identification number”.
The scribe added that the ruling party is equally projecting to record about 8 or 9 million embers by the end of next week, when another assessment would be made.
“We emphasize that in the couple of days, particularly when we’ll be making another assessment by next week, we should be in the region of about 8 or 9 million in membership, by the grace of God.
“What is also important is to say that we want our stakeholders in all states to take this exercise very seriously. It stands at the root of ensuring that we have an organic party that is a sink in mobilizing Nigerians for the support of the renewal of our agenda of our president, President Bola Tinubu”.
