The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has been accused of attempting to manipulate the leadership process of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Zamfara State.
The allegation was contained in a petition signed by the Zamfara State Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Ambassador Haruna Adamu Tsafe, on behalf of concerned political stakeholders in the state.
According to the petition, the controversy followed the disruption of the IPAC election earlier scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2026. The election, which was expected to usher in a new leadership for the council, reportedly failed to hold due to the actions of some individuals allegedly affiliated with the APM.
The petition alleged that the APM National Chairman, who also serves as the National Chairman of IPAC, mobilised party members, including an APM national officer acting as Secretary of the Zamfara State Electoral Committee, as well as the party’s Sokoto State Chairman, to influence the outcome of the exercise.
It further claimed that the move was aimed at installing the Zamfara State APM Chairman as head of a caretaker committee to oversee IPAC affairs in the state.
The petitioners also alleged that when the plan did not succeed, some individuals were allegedly mobilised to disrupt the election process, creating confusion at the venue and preventing the exercise from taking place.
They expressed concern that this was not the first time such an incident had occurred, alleging that a similar situation in the past led to the dissolution of the council and the appointment of a caretaker committee under controversial circumstances.
The concerned stakeholders, who said they represent over two-thirds of IPAC members in the state, rejected any attempt to impose a caretaker chairman on the council.
They called for fairness and respect for majority interest in any decision regarding the formation of a caretaker committee, stressing that such an approach is necessary to maintain peace and uphold democratic principles within the council.
