Arewa Youth reject leadership composition of North West Dev’t Commission

A group, Arewa Youth Alliance for Sustainable Development (YASD) has expressed its total rejection of the leadership composition of North West Development Commission, with an appeal to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the matter.
The group also condemned alleged actions of the Speaker, House of Representative, Tajudden Abbas, in personalisation of the newly re-constituted Commission leadership, in order to pursue his 2027 governorship ambition.
This position was disclosed in a press statement jointly signed by YASD’s chairman, Mahmoud Zannah, and its Vice Chairman, ALIYU Hassan, which was made available to Journalists, on Sunday.
YASD argued that the legal framework for the establishment of the regional commission was not strictly adhered to by the Rt.Hon Speaker, by ignoring sense of inclusion and equal representation of all states in the management and administrative composition of the newly established commission.
According to the group, the Speaker conspired in hijacking the position of the Chairman and Board Member from his state, without consulting the state governor, in his quest to contest for the governorship position in his state come 2027, and with the consent of other northwestern state governors.
The statement read in part:”Arewa Youth Organisations across 7 North Western States of Nigeria Comprising of (Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto and Zamfara) have uttered their displeasure and dissatisfaction over the recent appointment of North Western Development Commission leadership.
“The teeming youth have described the recent development as lopsided and disproportionate, due to lack of consideration for the entire region.They further argued that on the basis of lack of administrative procedure and due process in the recent purported appointments by the Speaker.
“The youth had previously raised concerns about the first appointments being made
sometimes last month, alleging the Deputy Senate President and The Speaker instead of the right adjustments to the made in the new appointed management of the board, there was no any fundamental change only change in names.
“We therefore speak to debunk, reject and dismiss the actions of the Rt.Hon Speaker.
“In furtherance of our agenda for inclusivity, good governance and equality, we appeal to the President and Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces to take action and also call on the attention of the North West geopolitical zone governors, senators and all National Assembly leaders to intervene and take charge.”
