Armed robbers machete 3 NURTW drivers, 5 others in Delta

Rampaging armed bandits on Tuesday allegedly attacked three National Union of Road Transport Workers ( NURTW) drivers, conductor and four others with machetes along the dreadful Bomadi- Ohoror road in Delta State before disappearing into unknown destination.
It was gathered that the hoodlums ambushed the drivers and others on the road.
They were said to have at gunpoint including display of their machetes rounded up the drivers and others in the vehicles and robbed them after they allegedly machete the drivers.
But one of victims, Ebi Esther who spoke to journalists in the area said that the incident occurred around a deplorable spot on the road near Odorubu Community in Patani Local Government Area, adding” we ran into the robbers at the bad spots near Odorubu Community, the robbers came out of the bush all dressed like black Ninjas and stopped our motor with gunshots ,they took all our money, phones and other valuables, they are small, small boys and one of them stabbed my hand and took away my money, they hurriedly ran into the bush and abandoned their vehicle without plate number.”
But the Bomadi Chairman of the NURTW, Stanley Ogbakiri who confirmed the incident to journalists, however appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to as matter of urgency carry out repair work on the highway deplorable spots, adding that” my passionate appeal to the Governor is that many people have been maimed and killed on this road and the state government should please come to our aid and repair the road to curtail criminal activities.”
Another victim, Happy Funtoru said that” three vehicles ran into the robbers on the spot and we were attacked with machetes and some of us were heavily injured but God on our side and we are calling on the state government and the Police to come to our aid and help us.”
Speaking with journalists in Asaba, the state Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwah who confirmed the incident said that the police have been mobilized to the area to collaborate with the JTF taskforce on the road, adding that the Police were determined to protect the lives and property of the people and assured that the police will bring the hoodlums to arrest.
