From Ahmed Idris Birnin Kebbi

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), has launched an investigation into abandoned projects in Kebbi State with a view of bringing contractors handling the projects to book.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, the North West Head of EFCC, Abdullahi Lawan, said that he was in the state with his team to inspect abandoned projects in order to launch investigation on the reason for their abandonment by contractors.
According to him, the inspection tour was planned to be carried out in the three states of Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi, which the zonal office over sees, saying the wisdom for the investigation was to check corruption which largely perpetrated through construction projects.
He added that his commission had so far inspected projects in Vocational Training Center in Anbursa, proposed state secretariat, Streetlight project in the state capital and Kebbi state Agricultural and Rural Development Agency.
“Last year, we made mentioned that we are going to embark on monitoring and evaluation projects in the three state under the Zonal Office. It is observed that most fraud perpetrated are through contractors who, were awarded contract and at the end abandoned the project. We are here to see the projects that were abandoned.
“ We were also in Zamfara State, we inspected three projects. In Kebbi State, we want to inspect about five projects. After the inspection, we will commence investigation. The projects we are inspecting are projects concerning construction.”
