…As group berates APC for insulting Jonathan in Sokoto

Date:

The Nigeria Posterity Project has taken a swipe at the Sokoto chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly insulting and embarrassing President Goodluck Jonathan during his campaign rally in the state on Monday.

According to the National Coordinator, Louis Ebodaghe, some APC youth were alleged to have swept the foot prints of the president in a symbolic gesture that demonstrated the humiliation and rejection of the PDP’s bad leadership and governance.

In the statement he made available to Peoples Daily yesterday, Ebodaghe said their action portrays lack of morals, disrespect for the person and office of the president noting that the action was likely to be replicated elsewhere.

“We are taken aback that the APC leaders in the state and at the national level has kept mute over the action of the youth for casting aspersion on Mr. President. The action of the youth couldn’t have been spontaneous but a premeditated action orchestrated by some disgruntled elements within the APC leadership in the state to embarrass Jonathan.

“We are convinced that some elements within the party leadership in the state would have organized and encourage the youths to carry out this shameful act. We condemn the attitude of APC supporters in parts of the North and Northern political actors for keeping mute when President Goodluck Jonathan supporters cannot freely exercise their freedom of expression.

The burning of President Jonathan’s campaign vehicles in parts of the North and the pulling down of his posters in parts of the North can only be likened to Nazi Germany where for the fear of Hitler, everybody must fly the Nazi flag even against their conscience. This cannot be tolerated in modern day Nigeria and should not be encouraged.”

The group further adduced that the action of the youth could rubbish the peace accord recently signed by the 14 presidential candidates and recalled that Gen Muhammadu Buhari the flag bearer of the APC had braced President Jonathan after both signed the accord stressing the symbolic gesture may have been cast in bad light.

The group appealed to the leaderships of all political parties to caution their supporters against acts likely to jeopardise the smooth and peaceful campaigns and actual elections in the country adding that the APC in particular should admonish its supporters to restraint in their actions in harmony with its campaign slogan of ‘change that we need’ in the hitherto way conducting things.
