A group in the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Taraba State, PDP Fan Club Worldwide has condemned plot to impose a governorship candidate on the party, insisting that party primaries should hold.
The PDP group in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Comrade Phinias Audu and State Coordinator Comrade Abdullahi Sani also expressed serious concern with the delay in the conduct of PDP primaries in the state.
The group appealed to the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), National Chairman, Alhaji Ahmad Adamu Mu’azu and the presidency “to allow the will of people to prevail and ensure a just and fair atmosphere for the conduct of the primaries in Taraba State.”
They argued that the issue of zoning gubernatorial ticket of the PDP to the southern Tarabas is unconstitutional and against the tenets of democracy.
The group insisted that issues arising from zoning been perpetrated by some self-centered inclined politicians is unpopular, immoral and illegal.
“Zoning in Taraba State is uncommon and unacceptable by the good people of the state, zoning has never, been a determining factor for the emergence of governors or any elective position in the state, since the return to democracy.
“In 1999 primaries were conducted likewise in 2003, 2007 and 2011. As fans club of the party, we are concerned with adherence to due process of law and order in the conducts of the party exercise, not minding the aspirants.”
They called on the NWC to handle the purported zoning issue on the basis of the party’s general interest other than that of a group or individuals aiming at destabilizing the party in the state.
“It is an irrevocable fact that our great party has had a grip of machineries of power, since inception of democratic dispensation in 1999. The consolidation of democracy by the PDP government has placed Nigeria on a global front in terms of representative democracy and respect for rule of law” the group said.
The group urged the PDP National working committee and the Presidency, out of deep concern for the susceptibility of losing PDP fans and supporters across the entire state and damage to internal democracy the issue of zoning will cause, to quickly wade into the matter by ordering for the party primaries to hold.
