The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University, Jalingo Branch, has issued the Taraba State Government a fresh 14-day ultimatum to implement outstanding provisions of the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement.
The union warned that it may resort to lawful measures to protect the interests of its members if the government fails to take concrete steps before the deadline expires.
In a statement signed by the branch Chairman, Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, and made available to journalists, ASUU-TSU said the final notice took effect on September 14 and would expire on September 28, 2026.
The union acknowledged the efforts of the state government in addressing some challenges affecting Taraba State University but expressed concern that key provisions of the agreement remained unresolved.
“While we acknowledge the government’s commitment to industrial harmony and dialogue, we wish to note that some key provisions of the agreement remain outstanding and require urgent attention,” the union said.
ASUU-TSU said it appreciated the efforts of the Taraba State Government towards addressing issues affecting the university and implementing the FGN/ASUU 2025 Agreement.
“Consequently, ASUU-TSU issues a final 14-day notice effective from September 14, 2026, to September 28, 2026, urging the government to take concrete steps towards full implementation of the outstanding provisions,” the statement said.
The union stressed that it remained committed to peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue but warned that it could consider lawful measures if the outstanding issues were not resolved within the stipulated period.
It also appealed to stakeholders to support efforts aimed at maintaining a stable and productive academic environment at the university.
“We hope for prompt action to sustain stability and uninterrupted academic activities at the university,” it added.
Peoples Daily reports that the ASUU-TSU branch had earlier issued a 14-day ultimatum on August 13, 2026, calling on Governor Agbu Kefas and the Taraba State Government to fully implement the agreement or risk industrial action at the institution.
The earlier ultimatum expired on August 26 without what the union described as concrete and verifiable action from the government.
ASUU, however, did not embark on industrial action at the time because the university’s combined convocation ceremony was scheduled to take place within the period.
The latest ultimatum increases pressure on the Kefas administration to resolve the outstanding issues and avert a potential disruption of academic activities at Taraba State University.
