The Special Adviser to Niger state governor on Media Communication and Strategy, Jonathan Tsado Vatsa has advised communities living around riverside to immediately relocate to the higher ground.

Vatsa in a statement issued  in Minna said there is the urgent need for those living along the river bank to relocate to a safe place to avoid possible disaster sequel to the weather forecast of widespread thunderstorm and rainfall across the country by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency,

He noted that the government cannot afford to witness another catastrophic situation like the recent Mokwa flood disaster that claimed over 200 lives with property worth millions of naira lost.

According to Vatsa, despite the warning by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Niger state is vulnerable to flood with over 2,000 communities across 15 local government areas of the state living by the riverside.

He appealed to the traditional leaders, community and religious leaders to help the government in the sensitization of their subjects and followers to see the need to adhere strictly to the flood warnings and take precautions.
