Retired Major General EJ Atewe (MFR) yesterday added glamour to the closing ceremony of the 2026 Guards Brigade Inter Unit Sports Competition held at the Guards Brigade Headquarters, Aguyi Ironsi Cantonment, Abuja.

The colourful event witnessed thrilling displays of talent and sportsmanship as personnel of the Nigerian Army competed in different sporting activities designed to boost discipline, teamwork, combat readiness and unity among troops.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of medals and honours to victorious teams and outstanding football participants by Maj Gen Atewe (Rtd) alongside senior military officers and other dignitaries.

Events competed for during the tournament included football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, swimming, table tennis, combat relay races and tug of war.

The ceremony attracted top military officers, invited guests and supporters of the Nigerian Army, with participants commended for their professionalism, resilience and patriotism.

Organisers said the Guards Brigade Inter Unit Sports Competition remains a vital platform for promoting esprit de corps and discovering sporting talents within the Nigerian Army.
