Less than 48-hours after his emergence as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has paid a visit to the Governor of Rivers State, Mr Nyeson Wike in Abuja.
Wike was the runner up at the PDP presidential primaries held at the weekend in Abuja.
Similarly, Atiku has visited former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki also in Abuja.
The visits are aimed at reconciling with Wike and Saraki as well as other aspirants whom he defeated at the party’s presidential primaries held at the velodrome wing of the national stadium, Abuja at the weekend.
The PDP presidential candidate had earlier visited
Sokoto State Governor, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who stepped down for him at the primaries, in the early hours of Sunday in his Maitama home, Abuja, to thank him.
Atiku defeated eleven other aspirants to emerge at the flag bearer of the leading opposition party at the convention where about about 763 delegates voted.
Atiku is expected to also visit all other aspirants who contested with him at the convention, with a view getting all of them is involved in his campaign ahead of the 2023 general election.
In his confirmed Twitter and Facebook accounts, Atiku said “in continuation of my commitment to bring everyone on board in ensuring that the @OfficialPDPNig stands as one united party, earlier today, I visited His Excellency Gov Nyseom Wike at his Abuja residence.
“This is a continuous process”, he said.
It will be recalled that Atiku who polled 371 votes to emerge as the 2023 PDP Presidential candidate, had on Saturday promised to work with all those who contested against him to rescue and rebuild Nigeria.
He said “ let me also use this opportunity to call on my fellow contestants and to assure them that I am ready to cooperate and work with them and give them a sense of belonging in this party and our next government”.
Atiku in the early hours of Sunday met with the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who withdrew from the race for him at his residence in Abuja.
