Attack on Zamfara Rep: Court adjourns to June 26

Date:

From Ibrahim Sidi Muh’d, Gusau

The Prosecutor handling the case of criminal charges against Senator Ahmed Sani and 29 others, Mr. Oloye Torugbene has tendered an application before a High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara state capital, seeking for the continuation trial of the case.

According to Torugbene, even though the Attorney-General, during the last sitting, had prayed that the state would now take over the proceedings, “It has become necessary for our client (Ibrahim Shehu Gusau) to seek for justice.

He told the court that a criminal case of armed robbery and murder, among others, was instituted against the distinguished Senator and 29 others against his client.

The Prosecutor disclosed that, “Once a case of this nature which was brought to the court was allowed to go just like that, we are sending bad signals to the society, that any person can misbehave and go unchecked.

He said the court is not a place for governors, senators, ministers and the rich to exercise their powers, but rather, it is a place where people seek for justice not minding the class or position an accused may be.

Torugbene argued that their application was based on section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, saying, “It is for this reason we pray for the continue trial of the case in this honourable court”.
