The students of the American University of Nigeria,Yola(AUN) have staged a peaceful demonstration over prolonged power outage being experience in Adamawa state and its environs.
According to the students in their numbers on Wednesday, the prolonged power outage has affected major economic and social activities, urging the national electricity authorities to address the challenge with urgency.
They stated that the peaceful protest was to voice their grievances about the national electricity crisis, lamenting the human and environmental cost of the prolonged outage and its negative impact on their academic activities.
They however, requested that their residence halls and reading rooms be powered for longer hours so they can prepare for their examinations and for more flexibility in their exam schedules.
In a response to the development, the management of the University has shifted the start of final semester exams by three days for the students to read more.
Checks revealed that, the spring semester examinations which were earlier scheduled for Saturday, April 27, will now begin on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Other concessions granted the students by the University management include halting of regular teaching activities to afford students more time to prepare for their exams and installation of solar power lighting and cooling systems in the library complex.
