The Chairman-elect of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and former Senate President, Dr Iyorchia Ayu has harped on the need for team work among the incoming members of the National Working Committee, NWC, members of the party.

Ayu specifically said that the NWC members, who will be inaugurated tomorrow in Abuja, must work as a team by ensuring that there are no divisions.

The incoming National Chairman of the PDP spoke yesterday during a valedictory session organised for the outgoing national officers of the PDP at its national secretariat in Abuja.

He assured that his leadership of the PDP intend to run an inclusive administration.

According to Ayu, “We must work as a team. There will be no divisions. We will not allow any divisions. And that will extend to all other members of the party.

“We intend to run an inclusive administration. And that will include all members of the current working committee that is about to handover to us.

“It will extend to broaden the frontiers of administration to include every party leader in every state. And I believe together we will succeed.

“And if we succeed, I have succeeded. I thank you for the work you have done for organizing this particular valedictory session.

“I think this valedictory session should have been actually an expanded NEC meeting and everybody should have been here to listen to the statements you have made.

“But I think we have learned from you. Because in the next couple of years, we too will be organizing another valedictory Session. I will try to ensure that everybody’s on board”, he said.

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, while speaking at the event, commended the efforts of the party’s leaders, the NWC members, it’s governors, legislators, Board of Trustees, (BoT) ,National Executive Committee (NEC) and all PDP members towards the success of the 2021 elective national convention.

The PDP, Elumelu pointed out, has roundly shamed the All Progressives Congress, APC, and their agents, who, as naysayers and enemies of democracy, “had set land mines, expecting our party to submerge in crisis, factionalize and founder, so as to deny Nigerians the platform to rescue our nation from the vicious claws and deadly stranglehold of the APC”.

The valedictory session, he stressed  was significant because “the achievement of seamless transition in party administration at the expiration of statutory tenure, reinforces the status of the PDP as party of statesmen and women and the mainstay of democratic practice in our country.

“Moreover, it signposts the unity, cohesiveness and progress that will pervade our nation when our party takes over power in 2023 from the vexatious, retrogressive, and corrupt All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The APC has failed in governance and party administration and a crushing fall awaits it in 2023.

“I dare say that in spite of its many challenges, the outgoing NWC is an embodiment of the resilient spirit of the PDP. I recall that by December 2017 when this NWC took office; our party was still hurting and heavily demoralized over the national tragedy of the loss of the 2015 general election”, he said.
