B/Haram attack: Normalcy returns to Garkida as Gov. Fintiri condoles victims

The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the return of normalcy to Garkida town in Gombi Local Government Area after a deadly and heavy attack by Boko Hatam terrorists on Friday’s night.
Image maker of the Command, DSP Suleman Yahaya Nguroje told our reporter in a mobile phone chat that normalcy has since returned to the area as the military and the mobile police have been drafted to ensure peace and order.
“As I am speaking now,we are driving out of the attacked ancient town of Garkida and its environs. As I am confirming to you normalcy has been restored to the area.”
Nguroje said a joint team of security operatives visited the town to ascertain firsthand information on the security challenges so that necessary steps can be provided to avert reoccurrence in the future.
Nguroje stated that the reports at their disposal has revealed that two soldiers lost their lives in the attack as many buildings including places of worship were burnt down by the insurgents.
It could be recalled that the Boko Haram insurgents launched a heavy attack on the Garkida town around seven (7) o ‘clock Friday evening forcing local residents to scampered in all directions in fear of their lives.
Reports had shown that the Boko Haram terrorists infiltrated the Ancient Garkida town through Bijibiji and kwaya villages .
Impeccable source told this reporter that immediately the insurgents entered the town with about ten(10) gun trucks while some of them with more than fifty boxer motor cycles carrying two terrorists shooting sporadically in to the air.
The source added that the insurgents razed down many buildings including two churches of Living Faith, Church of Brethren and Anglican EYN ,Business malls and houses belonging to some prominent personalities of the ancient town such as Major General Paul Tarfa,(Rtd),Colonel Andrews Sawa(Rtd).
Other buildings affected were the renovated police station,the police barracks,Garkida General Hospital,Garkida Development Area secretariat,schools as well as the home of a business mogul,Mr.Daniel Richard among others.
According to the fleeing residents interviewed,the terrorists usually loot and Miami them of their valuables especially food stuffs before setting buildings on fire.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has since visited the affected communities and commiserated yesterday (Sunday) over the ugly incident.
Governor Fintir described the situation as “devastating and cowardice “appreciating the efforts of the military personnel stationed at the town who put in some efforts to arrest the attack.
Fintiri announced that his government will empower more vigilant and hunter groups to compliment the effort of the security outfits.
