Bago assures swift completion of IBBU Lapai Teaching Hospital

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University ( has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University IBBU), Teaching Hospital, Lapai.
He promised that the institution’s pioneer set of MBBS students will be the last to undertake their clinical training outside the institution.
The governor gave the assurance while receiving the University’s 41 pioneer medical students, who are beginning their clinical training at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Bago described the students as trailblazers, whose resilience has laid a solid foundation for the University’s medical programme.
He said construction and equipping of the teaching hospital would be completed within the next year, enabling future medical students to undertake both pre-clinical and clinical training entirely at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.
To support the students during their stay in Zaria, the Governor announced the donation of a brand-new 18-seater bus to ease transportation between their accommodation and lecture venues.
He also approved a financial intervention of one hundred million naira for the pioneer MBBS programme, of the amount, eighty-two million naira will be paid directly to the 41 students, with each student receiving two million naira, and eight million naira was approved as a token for the College of Medical Sciences, while ten million naira was approved for the management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University to support the programme and enhance logistics.
Bago urged the students to be worthy ambassadors of Niger State and the University by demonstrating excellence, discipline and professionalism throughout their training, assuring them of his administration’s continued support.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Secondary and Tertiary Health, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Bagana, presented the pioneer medical students to the Governor and commended his commitment to sustaining the University’s medical programme despite initial accreditation challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the students, President of the IBBU Medical Students’ Association, Comrade Jamilu Minkail, thanked Governor Bago for ensuring they could continue their medical education through the arrangement with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He also commended the University management and the College of Medical Sciences for their unwavering support and pledged that the students would uphold the values of excellence and professionalism.
