Bandits Kill Over 100 Persons In Benue

*30 Bodies Recovered So far

Over 100 persons have been reportedly killed on Thursday in Ayati, Ukum local government area by bandits.

It has been gathered that over 30 bodies have already been recovered.

Peoples Daily also, learnt from a prominent indigene in the area who pleaded anonymity said that the incident which occured in the night, started when some bandits were said to have received money from some herders to graze their animals in two (2) council wards.

He said as they were grazing, they came in conflict with farmers who reported to government and security was dispatched to pursue them while burning down the herders makeshift tents.

He said,”they (herders) became angry as they claimed to have given money for the land so they went back to the bandits. So the herders joined hands with the bandits to attack the village and massacre people.

“We have already gathered over 30 corpses. They are still searching”.

Confirming the incident the Police Public Relations’ Officer, PPRO SP Catherine Anene said, “I am aware there was an attack and I am waiting for briefing from officers on ground”.

While the Commissioner for Information Hon. Mathew Aboh who also, hails from Ukum local government area said so far 30 corpses have been recovered, attributing the killing tp battle for supremacy rivalry bandit groups are responsible for the incessant killings in the area.
