The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, under his foundation , has launched a post graduate foreign scholarship scheme for Kano students.
The beneficiaries would to study post graduate courses on Artificial Intelligence and Learning, Cyber Security and Forensic Science, and Robotics Technology in India, China and Thailand.
Speaking at the distribution of admission letters to the first batch of 70 beneficiaries in Kano on Monday, Jibrin said the beneficiaries would undergo two-year post graduate programmes in the affomentioned countries.
According to him, the committee set up to screen the beneficiaries had considered eligibility, which include candidates with first-class and second class upper in their degrees.
He said the screening process was transparent without favour, adding that he does not know any of the beneficiaries.
The Deputy Senate President also noted that the beneficiaries cut across the 44 Local Government areas of Kano, not Kano North only, his senatorial district.
“The idea is to build the future of our youths through education, that is why we have taken this way.
“we painstakingly chose these areas of knowledge that are trending in the modern world. The selection process is fair and just. I don’t have personal relationship with any of the beneficiaries. Is not restricted to Kano North alone, is all over Kano.
“We have chosen those with first class and second class upper to have students that would fare in the universities they are sent.
“To make our children productive and be in tuned with modern technology to for the overall development of our dear nation, that is why we are now distributing admission letters to 70 students.
“If they get thin there, they are free to stay their and have more experience in their life before returning to their mother land,” he said
He urged them to be good ambassador of Nigeria in their host countries, calling on them to be serious in their study and shun anything that would disrupt their study.
Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, Minister of State, Education, commended Jibrin for the initiative.
