Bauchi court stops APC congress

A court in Azare, headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area has ordered the stoppage of the conduct of local governments and state congresses in Bauchi state.

The Presiding Judge Isa Mohammed of the Principal Magistrate Court 1, Azare gave the order yesterday after listening to the application filed by counsel to the 10 Plaintiffs, Barrister Usman Baffa Darazo which asked the court to stop the congresses pending the determination of the motion on notice.

Darazo filed the suit against the APC , Bauchi State Congress Committee and the Chairman, Bauchi State Congress Committee Dr Almajiri Geidam and alleged that there were fraud and irregularities in the last ward congresses conducted by the committee in Bauchi and asked the court to order all the parties to maintain status quo.

The Presiding Judge restrained the defendants from proceeding with local Government and State Congresses.

The judge ordered the respondents to maintain the status quo and refrain from acting on the ward congresses conducted in the state between 6th and 9th April 20 pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

He adjourned the matter to 28th April 2014 and ordered that service be effected on the defendants within 48 hours.

When contacted, the state acting Publicity Secretary of APC, Baba Abubakar Suleiman, said he was not aware of the court order even as he disclosed that they just finished holding their stakeholders’ meeting.
