The Governor of Bauchi State, Malam Bala Mohammed says he has no plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House on Friday, Mohammed said the meeting centered on governance and security.

The governor described speculation linking his visit to a possible switch from the PDP as baseless, saying “I am a PDP man. I am not here for politics or defection. I am here for governance and partnership.”

Mohammed said he briefed the president on the deteriorating security situation in Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State, where banditry has intensified due to ungoverned forest spaces around the Daji Dam.

The governor said he visited the affected communities alongside security chiefs on Thursday, assessed the situation, and compiled a detailed report seeking urgent federal intervention.

The governor said the president responded positively, adding that he has immediately issued directives for support.
He called for broader interstate cooperation against banditry, proposing a joint security summit involving Bauchi, Taraba, Plateau, and Gombe.
Mohammed also reiterated his long-standing support for state police, adding that though it is expensive, it would ease the burden on federal forces and make governors more accountable.

“We are very ready for state police. We have always supported it because it will reduce the burden on the Federal Government and make governors more responsive and accountable,” he said.
