Bauchi State House of Assembly has advised the government to employ agric extension workers, saying their shortage threatens food security.
Member Representing Ganjuwa East in the state assembly Dayyabu Ladan Muhammed raised the alarm over the acute shortage of agricultural extension workers in the state.
The lawmaker was speaking in a motion he presented during plenary session.
He said shortage of agric extension workers is threatening food security in Bauchi, and directly affecting the quality of farming activities and food productivity in the state.
Ladan appealed to the state government to assist farmers by recruiting more extension workers to mitigate the effects of food.
He said if the state continues with that few number of extension workers, efforts to improve on food production in the state will be a tall dream.
Contributing to the motion, other members of the house urged the state government to implement the recruitment process quickly to address the manpower gap.
