Bauchi State owned Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), has matriculated a total of 4024 students into the various programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The matriculation was conducted yesterday at the Yuli campus of the University in Bauchi with the administration of oath on the students by the Oath officer of the University.

Vice Chancellor of SAZU, Professor Fatimah Tahir, explained that the institution received a of 9,378 applicants out of which the number was admitted.

She further explained that, “Out of the number of admitted students, who had registered for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, 1434 are females while 2590 are males.”

The breakdown of those admitted are as follows: Faculty of Agric-335, Faculty of Arts -205, Faculty of BMS-507, Faculty of Edue.-461, Faculty of Law-59, Faculty of Mgt. Science 587, Faculty of Pharm. Science-58, Faculty of Science-935 and Faculty of Social Sciences-877.

Represented by DVC Academics,

Prof. Bala Maaji Abdulhamid, the VC stated that, “Let me emphasize the importance of today’s ceremony which qualifies you to become bona fide members of the University community after taking the oath of allegiance as students.”

She added, “I therefore, use this medium to congratulate the successful candidates for gaining admission in the 2025/2026 Academic Session. You can only appreciate the opportunity when you consider the applicants shortlisted for admissions which were 9,378. Presently only 4024 were offered admissions but more than 4000 qualified candidates were not fortunate which gives you more reason to appreciate and thank Almighty creator and sustainer of the universe for the opportunity.”

The VC added,”I equally welcome parents who are here to witness and celebrate with their children and to assure them that, the University is doing everything possible to uphold the hard-carned academic integrity and protect the interest of your wards.”

“Let me at this juncture say with deep sense of responsibility and candor that, the University as a matter of policy has zero tolerance to all kinds of anti-social vices; some of the abhorred anti-social behaviors includes but not limited to the following cultism/membership of secrete society, examination misconduct, sexual harassment, drug abuse, indecent dressing, vandalism, sorting of lecturers by female students and truancy,” She warned.

According to her,”Our duty as parents/teachers is not limited to giving you access to knowledge but also to help in molding your character so that you become responsible citizens of our country, Nigeria.”

“Let it be made abundantly clear to the deviants amongst you that, the University will not hesitate to take the necessary disciplinary measures against any non-conformist,” She warned.

The VC also added, “I equally want to advise you to be security conscious and report any suspicious persons/movements to the security staff and the Dean, Students Affairs Division.”

She stressed that, “It should be noted that, the Oath you have taken is an acceptance to abide by Sa’adu Zungur University’s Laws, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations as well as a promise that you will conduct yourself based on the provisions of the rules governing students conduct on campus as spelt out in students handbooks which will be given to you in due course during Faculties and Departmental orientations exercise.”

While on behalf of Senate and the Management of the University, wishing the students a successful academic pursuit, the VC stressed, “You should also note that, the University/Government have made available facilities for your academic convenience which should be guarded for your benefits and those behind you.”

“You are therefore required to give the University the needed support and cooperation to realize its vision and mission. Let me assure you that our doors are open at all times to assist you to address all your challenges within our limited resources,” she added.

On academic issues, the VC told the new students that the Departments and Deanery are there for them while the Students Affairs Division shall be their first point of call with regards to other welfare issues as they arise.

Fatimah Tahir used the medium to acknowledge and appreciate the government of Bauchi State under the leadership of Senator (Dr). Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, for the special attention accorded education and in particular responding to all the demands as at when do.

She also commemded the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) that constructed a comprehensive ICT Centre last year which has been put to use at the main campus in Gadau.

Similarly, “our gratitude goes to TETFund which had constructed 48 number students hostel accommodations at Yuli campus which will accommodate female students. I equally wish to express our gratitude to our host community and to urge the community leaders to do more in the area of security as we had a lot of security challenges in the previous session.”

The VC added that,”It is worth noting that, our students contribute a lot to the economy of the host community which is the more reason why we should play a ki role in securing the students.”

“To our untiring academic and non-academic staff, I urge you to remain steadfast and continue to collaborate in order to bring positive changes to the University and by extension to educational system in our state and the nation at large,” She stated.

The VC concluded stating,”To matriculating students, you should be good ambassadors of your parents and work hard to graduate with a good class of Degree at the end of your stay in the University.”
