A former teacher, Waibodei Subiri, has clinched the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship ticket ahead of Nov 11 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State.
Subiri polled 92 votes to defeat his only opponent, Tati Sesei Efebo, who got 70 votes, in the delegate election that was conducted in Yenagoa, the capital city on Sunday.
Announcing the results, the Chairman, Special State Congress, electoral panel, for APGA in Bayelsa State, Engr. Uche Onyemere, commended the delegates for conducting themselves before and after the elections, adding that there is no better way to conduct an election than what he experienced today.
He also thanked the two contestants for the show of sportsmanship, noting that it will further unite the party towards achieving their goals.
He said, “Bayelsans are very organized and disciplined people, and I also want to congratulate the two aspirants. In a battle of two we all know only one person will win. And God has chosen the winner for us today to u seat the PDP in the state.
“The Chairman of the party in the state has done a very wonderful work, I have witnessed several conventions and primaries no one is this organized.”
In his acceptance speech, the winner, Mr. Waibodei Subiri, said the pivot of his administration, the youths, will be considered, adding that the only way to achieve a better state is to get a greater percentage of youths involved in governance.
“In management if you approach from top to bottom u are destined to fail. So the youths will have a greater part of governance,” he said.
The State Chairman of APGA, Brisibe Kpodoh, said the party is a very big and responsible family and that was why they could achieve a successful election devoid of rancour.
He also stated that the election was been described by all as the most credible elections conducted.
The first runner up, Tati Sesei Efebo, said the party has a way of conducting an election and it was done transparently devoid of rancour.
