Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has acknowledged the immense contributions of the Catholic Church to Benue society and nation building.
Alia gave the acknowledgement at the weekend during the celebration of the New Rectory and Fund Raising for Building of Reverend Father’s Residence at the Church of Assumption, Nege-Ateku in Mbatiav, Gboko local government area of the state.
Represented, by the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Aondona Dajoh, Alia assured his administration’s commitment to support the church at all times to do more.
Speaking in his capacity, Mr Dajoh promised that the tenth assembly would continue to enact quality laws that would create favourable environment for government and the private sector to operate and thanked the Catholic church for the much it has been doing for the growth of the society.
In his remarks, Chairman of the occasion and Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Dennis Akura noted the pivotal role of the church in moulding moral values and called on individuals and groups to always find reasons to support the propagation of the gospel.
In their separate speeches State ALGON Chairman, Mr Philip Achuah and General Manager, Benue Links Company, Mr Alexander Fanafa all praised the ideals of the church saying they were happy with the development indices of the church and sued for sustained prayers for Governor Alia and his government to continue to execute policies and programs for People of the state.
On his part, the central planning committee Comrade Titus Terdue Atondu commended the Governor for his interest in the plight of Mbatiav people.
Earlier in a homily, Dean of Agidi Deanary, Monsignor, Reverend Father Henry Terwase Akaabiam emphasized the need for children of God to make a difference anywhere they find themselves by being Godly in their ways of life so that God can forgive their sins.
