Benue House of Assembly has frowned at the arbitrary deductions and omissions that were noticed in the payment of workers’ salaries for the month of January. The House therefore, directed that all the complaints concerning the payment of that month salary be addressed before next payment is made to workers.
Members of the House took the resolution at the weekend while summoning two key functionaries of government to appear on the floor of the House to explain reasons behind the discrepancies and omissions noticed in the payment of January salaries.
Those summoned to appear before the State Lawmakers are the Head of Service, Engr. George Edeh, Commissioner for Finance, Mr. David Olofu along with their key staff and the Consultant that handled the payment, Remita Consultants.
The officials are also, directed to come with all relevant documents that will support them in explaining issues surrounding the payment of January salaries.
Speaker of the House Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange gave the ruling after a debate on a motion moved by the member representing Gboko West Constituency, Mr. Terhemba Chabot who lamented that despite the resourcefulness of the State Civil Service, a Consultant was contracted to handle the payment of January salaries thereby rendering the Bureau of Salary redundant.
Chabo called on the Governor to terminate the contract for the payment of salaries awarded to Remita Consultants.
Mr. Ikyange agreed with the motion noting the discrepancies and omissions witnessed in the January salaries of workers has further subjected the workers to untold hardship as well as ridiculed the APC government in the State and directed that the Contract with Remita Consultants be suspended pending the investigation by the Assembly.
