Gombe community laments scarcity of water

Maiganga community in Gombe state has blamed LafargeHolcim, a subsidiary of Ashakacement for the water scarcity in the area.
Village Head of the community, Uba Garba told Journalists when LafargeHolcim visited his palace at the weekend in Maiganga, that the water shortage has led to spread of diseases in the community.
He decried that their relocation to Maiganga by LafargeHolcim has given them a lot of problems in terms of sustainability, adding that the community is worried with the type of structures built for them by the company.
The monarch who did not hide his feelings called on the company to assist them with potable water even as he said their homes are due for renovation.
According to him, the houses built by the company need expansion to accommodate families, adding that apartment cannot accommodate 10 people.
He said even before then Gombe state government do provide them with sufficient water before they were relocated by LafargeHolcim to Maiganga.
In an interview with the Managing Director LafargeHolcim Mallam Rabiu A. Umar, told journalists that boreholes has been put in place in the village and that the company is planning to do more.
According to him, LafargeHolcim is aimed at promoting sustainable construction for a better society where people will benefit.
He argued that the company cannot render all services requested from them but would do its best to ensure that the complaint brought before them is tackled.
